Килифаревският манастир е основан от Теодосий Търнвски, книжовник-исахист, и е построен със срдствата на цар Иван-Александър в средата на XIV век. Тук се създава прочутата Килифаревска книжовна школа, която през 1360 г. има 460 ученици. В нея се образова и бъдещият патриарх Евтимий Търновски.

Манастирът е разрушаван многократно по време на османското владичество. Последното възстановяване е от средата на XIX век. Най-забележителна е църквата "Свети Димитър" обявена за паметник на културата.

The Kilifarevo Monastery was estabilished by the prominent man of  letters and Hesychast Teodosii Turnovski and built with the help of donations of Tsar Ivan-Alexander in the middle of the 14th century. It was homeplace of the famous Kilifarevo School of Letters, where in 1360 there were 460 students. Among them was also the future Patriarch Evtimii Turnovski.

During the Ottoman oppression the monastery had been frequently destroyed and restored. The latest restoration is from  the middle of the 19th century. The most remarkable architectural monument here is the monastery church "Sanit Dimiter" wich has been proclaimed for cultural monument.
